Cider Season Is in Full Swing

Local Cider Love: Pints, Patios & PNW Apples at the Taproom

Let’s take a moment to give the humble apple some love. While IPAs and lagers often steal the spotlight, craft cider has quietly become one of the Pacific Northwest’s greatest contributions to patio season. And here at The Hoppy Brewer, we’re proudly riding the cider wave—one crisp, juicy pour at a time.

Whether you’re gluten-free, just cider-curious, or already deep in the orchard, our Gresham taproom has something bubbling with flavor for you. This summer, we’re raising a glass to all things cider: from dry and funky to sweet and summery, it’s prime time for apple-based adventures.

Why Cider Shines in the Summer

Cider’s not just an alternative to beer—it’s a celebration of local agriculture, regional terroir, and the creative freedom of fermentation.

Here’s why it’s perfect for this time of year:

  • Naturally refreshing with low bitterness
  • Wide range of flavors: dry, tart, floral, berry-infused, or downright dessert-like
  • Pairs beautifully with sunshine, grilled food, and live music
  • Often gluten-free (great for the sensitive crowd!)
  • Cold. Like, really cold. Which we all need right now.

And let’s be honest—when you’re sitting outside searching for a “taproom near me†with something light and chill, a cider can hit the spot better than anything else on the menu.

Explore Our Rotating Cider Lineup

We’ve always been known for our beer selection, but our cider game is seriously strong. At any time, you’ll find 4–6 ciders on draft, plus cans and bottles from some of the PNW’s best cider houses. Check our Tap List for the latest pours or explore what’s available on our Ciders We Carry page.

Some recent favorites include:

  • Portland Cider Co. Pineapple Rose – tropical, floral, and Instagram-ready
  • Reverend Nat’s Revival Dry – crisp, dry, and sharply refreshing
  • 2 Towns Easy Squeezy – citrus-forward and sessionable
  • Bauman’s Loganberry – local fruit and Oregon roots in every sip

Ask your bartender what’s new on draft or what they’d pair with that pulled pork sandwich you’re eyeing.

Cider + Patio = Summer Goals

You already know The Hoppy Brewer is one of the most beloved dog-friendly taprooms in Gresham. But when you throw a chilled pint of locally crafted cider into the mix? Now you’ve got summer magic.

Our outdoor seating is ideal for:

  • Sipping cider in the shade
  • Catching a live set with your four-legged friend
  • Escaping your inbox with a cold pour and a cool breeze
  • Making awkward eye contact with other people’s dogs (we’ve all done it)

We don’t just offer cider—we offer the kind of chill taproom atmosphere that turns a quick drink into a whole afternoon.

Cider Slushies? You Bet Your Granny Smith

Yup, we’ve experimented with freezing down a few of our ciders into slushie form, and the results have been… dangerously good.

Fruity ciders make for some of the most delicious beer slushies we’ve ever poured. They’re tangy, ice-cold, and feel like a secret treat reserved for only the coolest taproom-goers. (That’s you.)

Ask your bartender if cider’s in the slushie rotation this week—it just might blow your hops off.

What’s On Tap Beyond Cider?

Not to worry, beer fans—we haven’t forgotten you. Our cider celebration is part of a broader summer lineup that includes crisp Kölsches, juicy hazy IPAs, and refreshingly tart sours.

Need a cider to complement your go-to beer? We’ll help you mix, match, and create the ultimate sampler paddle. (Pro tip: pair a dry cider with a tart Berliner Weisse for a killer contrast.)

You can check our Beers We Carry list to scope out your next pour.

Music, Apples & Outdoor Sips

Cider pairs surprisingly well with our live music lineup, too. Here’s what’s still to come at the taproom this July:

  • July 17 @ 7:30 AM: Beer Event with Firestone Walker
  • July 17 @ 6:00–9:00 PM: Live Music with Fast Eddie
  • July 19 @ 6:00–9:00 PM: Live Music with Woodlander
  • July 26 @ 6:00–9:00 PM: Live Music with Pushin’ Daisies

Come for the cider, stay for the tunes. We’ll keep the patio cold and the pours flowing.
